As I entered the Hamamatsu Kite Museum, I was immediately struck by the colorful kites adorning the walls and ceiling. The museum is dedicated to the history and art of kite-making, and I was excited to learn more about this traditional craft. The first thing I noticed was the variety of kites on display. There were kites in all shapes and sizes, from tiny paper kites to large, elaborate designs that required multiple people to fly. Some of the kites were so intricate and beautiful that they looked like works of art. After learning about the history of kite-making, I was eager to try flying a kite myself. The museum has a large open area where visitors can fly kites, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to do so. The staff at the museum were very helpful and showed me how to properly hold and launch the kite. Sakura is fully blooming in Hamamatsu, now is the best time to enjoy it.   After a rainy weekend, today I could finally go out and enjoy sakura.  One of the best spots in Hamamatsu which is also a walking distance from Hamamatsu station is The Hamamatsu Castle. A short 20 minutes walk, which is roughly 1.5km distance from Hamamatsu station. There are approx.  330 cherry trees that visitors can view.  At the entrance of the Castle area, there is a big field where visitors can enjoy a picnic or light exercise light walking, running badminton, and many more. Don't worry if you come empty-handed, there are many food trucks at Castle park.   The popular "Higashi Ooyama Kawazu Sakura Festival", where you can see early-blooming Kawazu cherry blossoms in Hamamatsu, will be held from February 18 (Saturday) to March 12 (Sunday), 2023. Kawazu Sakura Higashi Ooyama is one of the largest rows of Kawazu cherry trees in the western area of ​​Shizuoka Prefecture. The festival will be held as planned even with the cold weather continuing for several days. The best time to see them is expected to be around the end of February to early March . On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, they serve local vegetables such as cabbage, mandarin oranges, and chrysanthemum potatoes, as well as handmade pickles. There are also stalls that sell light meals such as udon, oden, yakisoba, and even cotton candy and ice cream.   The place where this event is located is lovely , by Hamana lake.  At Bentenjima Seaside Park, Maisaka gourmet dishes such as plump oysters from the Maisaka Town Oyster Association, green onion eels, shirasu croquettes, raw seaweed, gyoza dumplings, and curry are available. You can enjoy delicious food while gazing at Torii (red gate) in the middle of the lake .   Please come with an empty stomach!
